Yu Darvish Shines In Padres Victory Over Astros

Yu Darvish Shines in Padres' Victory Over Astros

Padres Win Sixth Straight, Move to 19-17

Yu Darvish was dominant on the mound Tuesday night, leading the San Diego Padres to a 5-2 victory over the Houston Astros.

Darvish allowed just two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out 10 batters and walking one. He improved to 4-1 on the season and lowered his ERA to 3.00.

Padres Offense Provides Early Support

The Padres offense gave Darvish an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Manny Machado and an RBI single by Jurickson Profar.

San Diego added another run in the third inning on a solo home run by Jake Cronenworth and two more runs in the fifth inning on a two-run double by Ha-seong Kim.

Astros Unable to Mount Comeback

The Astros were unable to mount a comeback against Darvish and the Padres bullpen.

Houston scored its only two runs of the game in the seventh inning on a two-run home run by Kyle Tucker, but it was too little, too late.

The Padres' bullpen was solid in relief of Darvish, with Pierce Johnson, Tim Hill, and Taylor Rogers combining to allow just one hit over the final two innings.

With the victory, the Padres improved to 19-17 on the season and moved into a tie for second place in the NL West. The Astros fell to 20-15 and remained in first place in the AL West.
