Windows 10 TPM Recovery Driver Issue
Understanding the Issue
When attempting to recover the operating system from Microsoft Windows 8 or 10 to Windows 7, or vice versa, an error may occur during recovery. This error typically indicates an "unknown" issue.Device Details
Upon examining the details of the device, you may encounter the following information:- ACPI\MSFT0101 (Figure 1)
- This device corresponds to the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) module, which does not have a driver.
Driver Availability
Unfortunately, there is no 32-bit driver for the TPM device in Windows 7. However, if you switch to Windows 7 64-bit, you can install a hotfix that supports this device.
Solution
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Switch to Windows 7 64-bit.
- Download and install the following hotfix: Hotfix for Windows 7 64-bit
- Restart your computer.
After completing these steps, you should be able to successfully recover the operating system from Windows 8 or 10 to Windows 7.
